Characterful
Really friendly little pub with decent selection of ales. The room was spotless and cosy with an immaculate ensuite with plenty of toiletries,so I dont understand the grumpy reviews that people have given for a single room as the clue is in the name. Friendly locals in pub, even got offered to buy a drink and the breakfast was cracking. Not posh but I like that as the place was full of character and characters. I would definitely stay here again if I needed to. Lovely to see a place that is not boring and soulless.

It's cheap, because it is cheap!
Paid £38 for a night in a solo room. Which was about 6 foot by 10 foot. Yes no joke, it was like a cupboard with no windows, but it had a radiator on which meant the room was really hot with only a stand up desk fan to try and cool it down (assuming you could figure out how the raditator worked because the knob is unclear what setting it's on. It's basically an annex to the main pub, which isn't probably one you would take your family too. Shared bathroom, which was decent enough though the pipes underneath the room leaked dripping into the corridor outside. Walls are paper thin so if you got neighbours, good luck. Breakfast was adequate, it's nothing special, a few basic items for a fried breakfast, some toast and cereal and coffee available. Standard. In the end you're paying a cheap price, but then you're getting cheap. Room alone is probably barely a £25 rate. I needed a quick solo stop off, it did the job, but if I was staying multiple nights, I'd be more hesitant.

Arrived on foot from the nearest bus stop. The pub hanging sign is missing so i entered the premises and confirmed with the cheery lady working the bar that i was in the right place😁 After the paperwork was completed i had to pay a £50 non-smoking deposit which i expect to see refunded onto my card. I was shown to room 13, a single room, as booked and also shown where the washroom was. The room contained a kettle, tea, coffee, a fan, a nightlight and a small flat screen TV, so was well appointed. The time for breakfast was also discussed and selected. All the staff i encountered were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was cereal, toast and also a cooked meal as well. Fried egg, grilled tomato, baked beans, 2 sausages and 3 rashers of bacon. Perfect! On leaving, i asked where the nearest bus stop was which headed out of town. Turns out that it is right opposite the pub! Again, perfect! For those driving, there is a car park accessible to the rear of the property via Chiltern Road.

I know it was inexpensive and it is a pub, but... Public space looked in need of upgrade. Tired worn threadbare seating, uncomfortable chairs. smell of smoke from outside areas permeated the building. Dreadful carpet in bar and stairs to bedroom had us dreading opening the bedroom door. Worst were the really creaky floors in the bedroom so you couldn't sneak to the bathroom without waking partner Dark blue sheets- a massive No-no for me -I couldn't get in so slept on top. and the uncontrollable shower head which squirted just 4 jets at force. Missing toilet roll holder and towel holder so there was not a lot of space to put anything. The bedroom looked clean enough but the window was small and high so no view whatsoever. As we were 3foot from a brick wall this was ventilation only. On the positive, staff were warm and professional. Cooked breakfast was good and quickly served although bacon a bit fatty for our taste preference. would I stay here again? only if there was nowhere else in my price bracket. Don't think it is geared up for tourists, more worker accommodation. Hope this doesn't offend.

Gave my card details for three different cards but they didn't work on the system.Luckily the fourth card worked.Their was nothing wrong with any of the cards and if the fourth one didn't work we would not have able to stay even though we had paid the full price in advance
