Red Roof Inn Savannah - Southside/Midtown, Savannah

Check in was great. We were permitted an early check in around 11AM. We dropped our luggage off in the room and headed out. This was our first mistake. ALWAYS check a room thoroughly when you arrive...before you put your belongings inside. As we were in town for work, we left for the entire day. Some time after dark we came back and started settling in. My brother in law, who is much taller than the rest of us noticed a sock in a shelf on the wall where the iron used to be. He commented that they didnt check the rooms good enough when they clean them. He took a pen and went to move the sock to throw it in the trash and discovered a burnt spoon with a tiny tied up bag with white stuff in it. Nobody is stupid...it was definitely drugs. I told him NOT to touch anything and we went to report it to the front desk. The man called the housekeeper who had cleaned the room and asked if he had seen it when he cleaned. He said he did not, and then the desk clerk started saying (somewhat understandably) that they didnt know us and couldnt exactly prove we didnt place the drugs in the room. Something about his tone was accusatory though, and we dont do drugs. So the incident was insulting. If we put drugs in the room why would we go tell on ourselves? In the end, the man retrieved the drugs from the room and im assuming discarded them. Housekeeping definitely needs to step up their cleaning and sanitation procedures. Other than that incident...it was a decent stay for the price.

When I checked in, the front desk person wasn’t wearing a mask. I went to my room and it seemed clean. I opened the fridge to empty my cooler and there was food in there. I thought it might be because there isn’t breakfast served right now, so there were microwaveable sandwiches as a convenience. I tried calling the front desk to ask and I got no answer. I thought it’d be in my best interest to throw them out. I got up this morning to shower and noticed my toiletry bottles were used (they were half empty and had residue on the lid that bottles only get from being used). I dumped them out so the next person would have fresh toiletries. I got out of the shower and grabbed a towel, only to discover there was a dead roach folded into it. That was enough. I got my things together quickly and went to check out and complain to the front desk. However, when I walked into the lobby, the front desk attendant was once again not wearing a face mask in the midst of a pandemic. This hotel is basically on hospital property. I don’t know how many potential Covid carriers this person has been in contact with, and he’s not wearing a mask. I got out of there as quickly as possible, as I am immunocompromised. I’m irritated that I didn’t get to voice my concerns directly to the hotel, but conditions prevented from doing so. Luckily, I was able to contact an Orbitz rep who helped me with my concerns. Definitely will not be staying here again.

Nice area, convenient to shopping. The sink faucet came off a couple of times and there was a phone but no cord? go figure.
