Don’t expect a “beautiful era,” in “Belle Epoque.”
Don’t ask for anything out of the ordinary, you will be ignored. Having recently had cancer surgery I am unable to soak in a bath and limitations to my movement mean it is easier for me to use a walk-in shower at the moment. we requested four times for a room with a walk in shower and were ignored. They aren’t interested in your celebration. I told them it was my husbands birthday on our arrival day, he wasn’t even wished happy birthday - or smiled at!! Bearing in mind it was Jan 31st, the room was extremely hot. We tried to adjust the wall mounted air-conditioning control to no avail, so my husband went downstairs to ask to change rooms. He was told there was no air-conditioning in any of the rooms, the room could not be changed and that we should turn the radiator off (it was not switched on!) When he mentioned the control panel, he was told that had not been operational for “a long time,” and had just not been removed. We had to use a large fan to keep the room a reasonable temperature, because none of the windows could be opened! The room itself was rather tired, had a broken lamp, curtain pelmet hanging off, bathroom blind, chipped paintwork. Breakfast is ok, but don’t bother with the Bistro du Vin for dinner, although staff, aside from the belligerent receptionist are generally good. Bar staff excellent.

Disappointing
I've stayed at this hotel before and had a wonderful time. Things have certainly changed and I would not make any further visits to this hotel. Room service was not available due to technical difficulties in the kitchen, the bar was understocked and even after paying for additional sundries another charge was made to my credit card without any authorisation.

Stayed for two nights last week and everything was great: clean room, well-appointed with fridge, hair dryer, etc., easy parking, close to everything. The best thing is the young staff who made us feel very welcome. Compliments to the bartender, Minty and Nick the manager, who was very well informed about the local attractions and who helped us plan a plan a route to see the interesting churches, ruins, palaces, and pubs nearby. I will recommend a stay here to all friends visiting Winchester.

Nothing charming about this experience.
Stayed for a one night trip, expecting a luxury experience from a well known hotel chain, but was left very disappointed by the lack pf personality and charm as advertised, the cold service and tired hotel. The hotel room was small, with no amenities to speak of (not even a box of tissues!), despite stating that the room would be occupied by 2 persons, there was only one towel and bottle of water, the 'welcome' at the reception desk at both check in and check out was very cold, with no personality or even asking if we had a good stay! The sewage smell coming from the bathroom sink as well as hot water from the cold tap left us feeling very disappointed. Would have expected much better, from a hotel claiming to be 'exuding charm'.

Underwhelming for the price
Expensive hotel, nice decor and good location but room cold and heating/air conditioning not working, shower temperature limited so not really hot enough, no normal coffee (only decaffeinated), only one set of towels for two of us…

Nice stay
Nice room, a little worn but Hotel du Vin has always been a bit shabby chic. Lovely amenities in the bathroom, nice coffee and tea tray. The shower had virtually no water coming out of the shower head so had to take a “splash bath”-I guess because it was a top floor room

Unfriendly staff espcially the bar lady on Friday evening who closed the bar at 1045 as we arrived. So hot we couldn't sleep. It really put me off a brand that i loved

We had minor frustrations with service at breakfast but the Manager was quick to respond, spending time with us to fully understand our concerns. Quality of food service was excellent. Good position in town centre with the benefit of parking.

Great hotel but a little noisy
This was our second visit having had a brilliant stay previously. Rooms and bedding are extremely clean and comfortable. Food is excellent. Location is perfect for Winchester. The only really downside is the noise. The hotel is in a busy main road and previously we had a room at the back but this time we were in the road. We asked to move as it was noisy and they kindly moved is to a side room but it was still noisy and as well as the road, music from the restaurant below was playing until after 10pm and before 7am. We would stay again but would definitely request a quiet room in advance.

Disappointing stay. All the staff were friendly and helpful but I felt the hotel itself is tired and needs some tlc. Our room was called “deluxe” I felt it was cramped, old fashioned and tatty. The carpet had stains, beds were sagging in the middle the pillows were lumpy, The shower was weak, the taps and the shower have air locks and splutter a lot. The tap on the hand basin swivelled round when you tried to turn it on. Some tiles on the floor weren’t properly laid and had sharp edges There was a lot of building noise from about 5.30am onwards. The communal areas also need a good luck of paint and carpet cleaning. The bar was not inviting at all but on a sunny day the courtyard would be lovely. Hot breakfast was good.
