Why three stars? Most people forget that lodging is rated on the quality (architecture, amenities, service qualities) of the lodging. For example, 5-star lodging would be most Four Seasons Hotels, Claridge's London or Mandarin Oriental NY for example. There is no 5-star lodging in Branson- the exception might be the Chateau-On-The-Lake or Big Cedar Lodge. Now, concerning Banta House Retreat. First, the operator communication and follow-up was above average and the location convenient to Branson theatres and activities. The unit itself, while clean and comfortable is of average to poor late 1990's construction quality with worn and outdated finishes (trim, doors, etc.). Located on the top floor of a 2-1/2 story multi-housing unit, it lacked basic cooking appliances such as toaster and tea pot. The front door knob was loose- possibly a poor repair or replacement attempt. Thus a solid 3-star lodging, despite the operator begging for 5-stars.
