Charming oasis in Centro Historico
This place is clean and charming. The neighborhood is also really great. The staff is friendly and the rooms have character with high ceilings and doors that open up to a balcony overlooking the street below. The only downside to staying at Hostal Regina is that it's on the second and third floors of the building its in and there are no elevators so you have to carry all your luggage up and down at least 2 flights of stairs. The free breakfast is toast and coffee (nothing special) but there's access to a kitchen and a few different common areas. The wifi is spotty however there are a few desktop computers available to use as well.

Found several long hairs in my bed after checking in for my first night. Clean-up in bathroom(mens) is not done often, thus bathrooms smell badly all day. Wifi does not work well in the rooms, only works best in registration area which is also the hallway area and thus people are always walking around. Expect lots of noise through the night, as there is a restaurant/bar on the lower level and the rooftop and the noise moves through the building interior and it easily reaches the rooms around it. Breakfast consists of just coffee/tea and toast with butter/jelly.

If sharing, is better to get double or triple more privacy and lounge. Private balcony over the street. Fabulous place.

Hostel Regina
It was a good hostel in a cool location, but it is very noisy. I mean, very noisy, granted I was there for the Mexican Independence Day, so there were fireworks going off at 1:30 am. Overall, good place for 3 or 4 days, 5 max. I'd do it again.

Fine as a hotel w/ a private room, not as a hostel
If you are looking for an inexpensive room to stay in Mexico City, this place is fine. The staff are very nice, everything is clean, I felt safe, and the location is good. However, if you are looking for a social hostel to meet people and form a group to explore Mexico City, I would not recommend this one. The bars are full of locals at night and the common couches were always empty. They have a few organized tours available from other companies at the front desk, but not the quantity and discounted price I was hoping for at a hostel. Note breakfast is simply a croissant and coffee, and you can find the same croissant one block away for almost nothing. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place. For just a little bit more you can stay at a much nicer hotel if you are looking for a private room, and if you are looking for a hostel you are better off finding a bigger one with more of a social scene. If you do stay here, though, try the steak tacos in the adjoining restaurant -- they're delicious!

Beautiful place!
We had a nice, clean, private room with a lovely European-style balcony overlooking the cobblestone streets of Centro Historico. The blankets were colorful and cozy and the sheets clean. the bathroom was also very nice. The Staff was super nice and so were the other guests. The hotel has a nice rooftop terrace for chillin and drinking/eating and the I like the layout of the building inside with the inner courtyard and attached restaurant. Overall, exceeded our expectations! The rates were reasonable as well.

Nice as a low budget option
Excellent location. Close to downtown and public transportation. If you don't mind sharing the room with other tourists. It wasn't a big deal because I was out most of the time. Little restaurants and bakerys around where you get a full meal & drink for $5 or $6 dlls.

Travel, 5 nights, May 8, 2013
I found the accommadations to be excellent. I had no security problems but the lockers in the room could be more secure bring a small combination lock. Leave anything valuable at the front desk. The building is of the colonial period style with remodeled bathrooms and kitchen. The breakfast I would skip not worth the time. The bar on the roof offers a good place to relax. It is five blocks south of the Zocalo and three blocks N.E. of the metro Isabel la Catholica. I liked the area and the Hostel. I hope this helpful.

Hostel experience for adventurous couples/groups
This is a hostel, so there are shared rooms and shared bathrooms. Private rooms are available for a higher rate than the community dorms. There are also apparently private rooms with private bathrooms. We attempted to reserve a room with a bathroom, but we found upon arrival that we had a room without a bathroom so we used the community bathroom. I am not sure if that was an error on the part of the hostel or Expedia's reservation system. Our private room held three twin size beds, two of which were pushed together to make a bed for two people, one locker cabinet to store belongings (bring your own lock) and a table and some chairs. No mirrors or other extras. The hostel is very friendly and fun. The free breakfast included in the room rate is served by a restaurant attached to the hostel. This breakfast is very small and may not provide enough energy to fuel a full day of exploring Mexico City. There is a good bakery with typical Mexican breads on the same block (we stopped here every morning). The hostel has a community kitchen supplied with dishes, utensils, some appliances (fridge, toaster, coffee machine), and some condiments so you can prepare your own meals. The kitchen is not always very clean, some hostelers do not clean up after themselves. The staff were always friendly and helpful, although they are more relaxed and less professional than typical HOTEL staff. The staff will wash your laundry and fold it for 20 pesos per kilo.
