The staff spoke virtually no English but we managed. I am still confused about the bill: they told me the price was 100 RMB per day more than Expedia listed, and rather than protesting, I accepted this, since it was still so cheap. They asked for a down payment of 300 RMB when I checked in, and when I asked later about paying the rest with my credit card, they said I only owed another 300. But when I tried to pay it while checking out, they said the whole bill was paid, so it actually came to less than advertised, not more. I'm still not sure if there was a mistake somewhere, but the language barrier made it impossible to discuss. On the other hand, the one drawback of the hotel is that it is too far from places to go anywhere, even central Huangshan, without a taxi, and the hotel worker who drove me to several destinations almost certainly overcharged me--more than other drivers for the same or longer routes. I don't know if that figures in to their statement that my whole bill was paid with only 300 RMB, but it sort of balances out.
