A bargain for SF, but some wear & tear and noise
The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The room was okay, but it's clearly an old hotel, and wear and tear (stained carpet) was noticeable. The walls are thin, so it was hard to fall asleep when a loud group was in the room next door (talking loudly and laughing until 1 AM and again at 5 AM). The shower needs repair since the handle didn't work well and the shower head had little pressure.

Paper thin walls
The walls are paper thin. You can hear the next room like you were in it. My neighbor came home at 3am with company and it sucked !! There were at least 20 homeless people living around the hotel so the streets smelled like piss, but they were very nice homeless people so I didn't feel unsafe.

Avoid this place
I chose this hotel solely due to its proximity to Moscone center. I understand its an old building but effort is needed, the hallways and room really show their age. The parking is a joke, there are limited spaces and is grossly over priced. Finally, the smoke alarm went off at 4:30am and we had to evacuate down 7 flights of darkly lit stairs with no response from hotel management. Fortunately, it was a flase alarm. At least the bed was comfortable and the bar was cozy.

Excellent customer service at great price
The Pickwick Hotel was central to a conference I was attending and was exactly what I needed during my trip. The people at the front desk and the housekeeper, Marie, were always so friendly as I came/went and they were even kind enough to let me do a late checkout (2pm) my last day there - which I cannot tell you how much I appreciated, as I was also grieving the recent loss of my twin sister and just needed that extra time before facing the day. Thank you Pickwick Staff!!! I'll definitely stay there again next year for my conference.

Poor choice
Staff was extremely pleasant but my room was incredibly outdated and faced the very loud and somewhat dangerous 5th street. I checked out of hotel two days early. I would not recommend this hotel, especially if your room faces the 5th street side. I would like to get my two nights expenses back.

Room was overall fine & check in was easy. Wasn’t aware of the cost of the attached parking garage until after checkout. Multiple signs had different pricing posted on valet window. So knowing I had to pay an additional $45 to what I had already paid for the room was off putting. Most hotels I’ve stayed in SF haven’t been more than $20. Either way paying extra for parking at a hotel is always dissatisfying

Stay was great. We did not stay in the room very long as we were out and about all day for two days. The location was great and easy to navigate.

There are other hotels that are better
So I got checked in no problem. I got to my room and it had some room. The bathroom was big, but I think that’s because it was a handicap one. So I tried to turn the AC on and the knobs were pretty much for show. I got my room changed and it was so small. At least the AC worked. The hotel could use remodeling done on the rooms because the first room I was in, the closet was almost blocked by the cabinet. The second morning I saw some silverfish in the tub. They were a very friend staff that offered to hold my bags after checkout so I could explore the city.

The hotel is clean, fun because of its age and quirk. Rooms are updated and clean. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Secure as you need a key to get in. Good food close, sight Glass coffee and Nosh Box. They do a great job of the hotel, despite the area, rough area of town. For the price, the hotel was clean and good.
