Wonderful historic Inn with very comfortable room
Situated on the outskirts of the lovely village of Coggeshall next to the church this historic Inn was a wonderful, peaceful get away. The bedroom had been refurbished to a high standard whilst retaining it's historic charm. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

Great value, gorgeous room.
Room absolutely stunning! Bed really comfortable, bathroom enormous and spotless. Loved the breakfast hamper really nice touch. Only downside was the noisy pub downstairs, would be really difficult to sleep. We made the decision to go down and have a drink, the locals and staff were very welcoming so we made the most of it 😊.

Great room
Room was excellent. En-suite was fantastic. Very clean and good stay. It is a public house and music finishing at midnight all good for us on first night but music being slightly turned down and finishing between 3 and 4am not so considerate for guests.

2/10 Poor

When I first arrived I was excited for my stay as the building is stunning and the room was perfect. However, within an hour of arriving the noise from the pub became unbearable. I was hopeful that this would only last a short period but this wasn’t the case. The noise only increased once Karaoke started which I wasn’t pre-warned about at all. On the website it says karaoke isn’t on a Tuesday which is when I stayed and it also mentioned that the noise would only go on until 12:00. Unfortunately the noise continued until after 1am. I had an early start the next day for work so I was very disappointed with paying over £100 to not be able to sleep.

It was listed as having a restaurant, but hasn’t. It said breakfast included, but it was a yogurt and fruit in a fridge. When a British pub says breakfast you expect a full English not a continental.

Very nice place to stay, great in room selection of snacks, breakfast items, teas and coffees. Shame the restaurant wasn’t open on my visit but there is options in the town within a few minutes walk. Overall very very good.

Beautiful but avoid Friday & Saturday
Beautiful building, stunning rooms & the staff are a credit to the business, especially Chris who keeps the rooms spotless. The reason for the one star rating is that due to it being a pub you will experience unbearable levels of noise due to the karaoke & dj on a Friday or Saturday. The rooms should be heavily discounted on those days. They do warn you that these events are on but you honestly there’s noise and then there’s noise which is so loud that items on the tables in the room actually shake from the bass! Earplug muffled it very slightly but not enough to be able to sleep until post 1am. Then at 8am the daily cleaning starts. If you’re staying mid week that would be perfect I should imagine.

Unfortunately only stayed one night , it was a mile from Houchins where we attended a wedding. We stayed in Maldon room , so gorgeous and comfy , we had breakfast provided in our room , everything has been thought of and attention to detail was second to none !

Very friendly and helpful staff. Very clean and well presented room. Breakfast is just items supplied in the room, but they have made the very best of the situation. A full breakfast would have earned a top score.
