The rooms: austere, with literally no comforting touches. No towels, no lamps, no a/c, barely reachable wifi. You can’t even get breakfast if you offer to pay for it through the adjoined hotel.
The advertising: dishonest. Don’t believe them when they say they have free parking. I had to park my rental car across the street for $10000 pesos a night.
The staff: inconsiderate. We had one particularly bad night of the 3 we stayed there. It was New Year’s Eve, and our room overlooked the courtyard. There was a group of gentleman immediately below our room having a wonderful and loud time with alcohol (this was expected by us because of new year’s, but the rules set by the hostal clearly state no alcohol allowed on the property). At the same time, we had a very long travel day, my wife was pregnant, and we just needed to sleep. We also felt entitled to peace and quiet as paying guests, and given that big parties could easily be found a few blocks away in town, we didn’t think it unreasonable to ask the staff to enforce the rules. Despite asking the gentlemen to be quiet directly, and speaking to the staff, THE STAFF proceeded to drink alcohol themselves and set up a loud speaker blaring music after we politely complained. It took my wife sobbing at 2am for them to turn down the music.
The bathrooms: yuck! Barely any privacy, and not cleaned frequently enough.
