4/10 Fair

Privacy and Security breach
It was clear that there was something or someone of a security concern nearby that was unsettling from the get go. I called and confirmed an early check in for between 1 to 2 however was not able to get jnto my room until 4:30. Most importantly and concerning is after being in the lounge area for 2-3 hours (after checking in and being in my room) i went to my room for the night and my door was open with the deadbolt switched over, which absolutely suggests someone was in there while i was in the lobby area. Coincidently the person i was travelling with advised they were not necassarily a supporter of the politician that we learned the following day was also staying there while conversing with another supposed guest of the Hotel. The "security" team for this person were so obvious depsite their best efforts and i have no doubt were in my room while i was not. When i approached the staff it was clear that they were not being honest about what had occurred and only offered to move me into another room. They missed the point entirely, if you'll allow someone to go into my initially reserved room why would another one be any different? I asked if they had cameras in the hallways so we could all determine whether my concerns were warranted and was told they do not, which is VERY hard to believe being a very new, modern, downtown hotel. I would never stay here again based on that alone.

Parking
Parking is in the parkade next to the hotel and charged @ $9.00 + GST per night. Make sure your license plate number is clearly written on the piece of paper when checking in. A typo was made when hotel staff entered my licence plate in the system and the next morning I found a ticket for a parking violation. The hotel did take care of the ticket, but it is a delay you don't need first thing in the morning when you are in a hurry to start your day.

6/10 Good

Adequate stay with unique features.
Thought I would give this newer hotel a go as it was reasonably priced during low-peak season. Only hotel in Nanaimo with a pool and hot tub (hot tub was under maintenance so unfortunately, was unable to enjoy). There were some well-thought out features of the hotels, as well as some improvements needed during my stay. First, the Bistro lounge is very well laid out with a variety of seating styles. The dining booths with the individual TVs was a unique touch. I enjoyed breakfast and dinner (not open for lunch) and the food is tasty. Counter service was a bit of an inconvenience in an otherwise smooth dining experience. The gym is fantastic. Would like to see a touchless water dispenser somewhere else other than the gym. I did not enjoy the layout of my room. The end of the bed is facing the window that has the AC/heating unit on that side and it is very uncomfortable having air blow directly onto you. The thermastat fan also doesn't have a full off switch, and it would turn on during the night, which is very disruptive. Normally beds are laid perpendicular to the window wall which would have been more comfortable.

8/10 Very good

I found it unfortunate that there is no "on-site" parking. This required me to leave the property and search for space at one of the nearby parkades, at night, in unfamiliar surroundings. As a solo female traveler, this was way beyond my comfort level. For this reason, I will not stay at this hotel again, if I am travelling alone. Otherwise, the hotel was fine.
