Old City

Chiang Mai's Old City invites exploration with narrow lanes revealing golden temple spires and saffron-robed monks. The ancient walls frame a world where incense mingles with street food aromas and traditional wooden shophouses line pedestrian-friendly sois. Wat Chedi Luang's brick chedis and Wat Phra Singh's ornate halls showcase the rich Lanna heritage waiting around every corner. Family-run shophouses serve authentic Northern Thai khao soi and sticky rice throughout this walkable district. Red songthaews circle the historic moat while tuk-tuks wait outside temples. Traditional guesthouses in converted Lanna-style buildings offer accommodation with local character and insights into this cultural heart of Chiang Mai.

Nimman

Nimman buzzes with creative energy where digital nomads tap on laptops next to locals sipping artisanal coffee. This trendy Chiang Mai area balances modern style with authentic Thai charm through tree-lined streets dotted with art galleries and boutique shops. Getting around is easy with abundant songthaews running to the city centre and the Chang Phueak Bus Terminal connecting you to northern destinations. The university campus offers lovely green spaces perfect for afternoon strolls.

Chang Moi

Chang Moi captures the essence of Chiang Mai with its golden temple spires and bustling markets. Wat Chedi Luang's ancient courtyards welcome wandering monks, while Warorot Market buzzes with vendors selling silks and spices. The Night Bazaar lights up after dark as artisans carve teak beside steaming noodle carts. This historic area offers authentic cultural immersion through its temples and vibrant shopping scenes. Getting around is a breeze with red songthaews running every few minutes. The area serves as a street food paradise where you can sample khao soi noodles and mango sticky rice from local vendors. Traditional guesthouses and boutique hotels in converted shophouses provide authentic accommodation with cultural charm.

Chang Khlan

The Chiang Mai Night Bazaar transforms Chang Khlan into a sensory playground after sunset. Shoppers haggle for handcrafted souvenirs while food stalls dish up steaming bowls of khao soi and sweet mango sticky rice. Hotels line the peaceful Ping River, ranging from budget guesthouses to swanky riverside resorts. Getting around is a breeze with abundant tuk-tuks and red songthaews running along Chang Khlan Road. Early mornings reveal a different side of this lively district before the evening's commercial buzz takes over.

Top landmarks in Chiang Mai

Near the intersection of Cha Roen Prathar and Thapae road (night bazaar) sits a square of food carts with a great selection of international foods.

Sit on hay bails, enjoy the indie soundtrack pipping through the sound system and take your choice of gyoza, pizza, Japanese curry, satay, and hamburgers to name just a few. There's even a beer bar for those so inclined.
