Charming quaint hotel in great neighborhood
This is the most adorable place you can imagine, right in the heart of Chiado. The rooms are compact (European style) but the view of the river and city street is marvelous. The front staff was incredibly friendly. Note that there's no lift so you may have to carry your luggage up several flights of stairs.

The hotel staff were incredibly helpful and obliging. I had broken my arm and they went pout of their way to help me to get to a hospital.

We had the best view of the property, but the 10 flights of stairs were difficult for me at 78.

Nice boutique hotel in excellent location. Close to everything yet on a quiet street. Very friendly staff. The room is quite small for 2 without closet or storage. Keep in mind - no elevator.

Great location and the stuff was excellent. There are no elevators and they help you bring your luggage to your room. They also keep in touch with you for any requests or recommendations prior to your arrival so you are ready to explore as soon as you get there. I would definitely recommend for solo travelers as well.

Very nice hotel in the heart of Chiado. Note there is no elevator; we were on the 5 th floor. Fortunately, we’re in good shape! Room was lovely but small; no dresser or other place to unpack clothes.

Lovely hotel in the hippest quarter in Lisbon, plenty of wonderful food and shopping opportunities in walking distance.
Lovely little room with small balcony to the back, comfortable bed and impeccable bathroom. Very helpful staff. There is no elevator, so you need to be able to walk up the stairs, but totally worth it and I am looking forward to staying there again.

Overall Chiado 44 was a great place to stay in Lisbon, but there were a couple of things that held me back from rating it 5 stars.
Pros:
- The staff were excellent! Monica, Catarina and the others were very helpful and always greeted us with a smile. Frankly their performance is why I rated this hotel higher than 3 stars.
- The location is great - a 5 minute walk from great restaurants, and 10 minutes from shopping and the waterfront (including the Time Out Market, the best food court I've ever seen). The hotel is on a quiet street so noise is not an issue. Just be aware that walking anywhere is going to involve hills but there is a funicular very close by :-)
- The hotel is quaint - rooms are small (at least ours was) but comfortable and the bathroom was nice.
Cons:
- There was a light but pervasive smell of drains inside our room (mostly the bathroom) as well as the immediate street. This may be a bigger issue for the hotel to solve and it may not affect all rooms but some active deodorizing might help.
- The view from room 102 was an old courtyard that had some old racking in it, quite different from what the photos on Expedia would lead you to believe. If you want a view ask for another room, although the advantage of it was there were only 4 flights of stairs to get to it (as mentioned in other reviews there are a lot of stairs to get to higher floors and no elevator, although there is a lot of charm with this layout).
