Hotel was very neat and tidy

One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Run down, rooms were very basic, not very clean, clearly not been invested in their upkeep. We had a leak and a broken blind and had to switch rooms. We had three children with us and there was music blasting until 1:30am both nights. The pictures make it look better than it was.

Good Golfing Hideout

Really enjoyed the stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good and the rooms were clean.

The Royal Sutton is a Hotel/Pub with a large downstairs bar and a stage/dance area. They tend to host events/bands at the weekends whose performances last into the early hours past 2am, so good if you are into that sort of thing but not the place to be if you like an early night and uninterrupted sleep - the noise is extremely loud (I really mean that) and permeates through all bedrooms. To be fair, it does mention the entertainment hours and noise on their website, but just understand that this venue is not intended to be a quiet weekend getaway! The rooms are fairly average if you are viewing them in comparison to a pub-style B&B, but pricey and a little dilapidated if you are going to compare them to a Hotel chain. They are really in need of a refurbishment; for instance the window frames are original/antiquated, grubby with peeling paint and no double glazing, so if you are near the main road you will hear quite a lot of external noise. The room I stayed in was big enough, but overall it was sparsely finished and couldn't be described as anything other than basic accommodation. There is quite a bit of parking off the main road to the side and around the back of the hotel. So that shouldn't be a worry if you need to leave your car overnight. Some of the spaces around the back are very tight and unsuitable for large cars, but if you go into the overflow area (down a small ramp) there are plenty more spaces that are less cramped.

It was clean room and friendly reception. I spent three nights during week days and the room over night was really quite. A really pleasant stay.

Spacious twin

Beautiful twin room with lots of room plus spacious bathroom. Was warned about noisy disco. Not too bad. Continental breakfast disappointingly sparce and cost an extra £7. Receptionist was lovely very helpful.

Location, location, location

This is the best location for a place to stay if you want to be in the heart of Sutton Coldfield. Trains and Buses only 5 minutes away. Hotel is clean, friendly staff, and has all you require for a stay. Can be a little noisy from the traffic passing to the front and it would help if the council fixed the loose manhole covers in the street but these issues are not the fault of the hotel. I would stay again.

Lovely one night stay

All the staff were really friendly and helpful, they even lent us an umbrella when it rained. Room was a good size only issue was the windows were really heavy to open and when closed there was some traffic noise. As they tell you the music is loud until 3am on a Saturday but just bring ear plugs and you'll be fine.

Disappointed

Loud music playing until 3.10am. The warning of loud music only in small print lower down on the booking. Would never stay there again. Room in need of decoration asap.

Great staff & room but Too noisy to return!

Lovely helpful staff, Rooms great, nice little continental breakfast but the noise from the club and the road after(Street brawls & people generally hanging around after the club closes) was too much! I even took earplugs with the pre-warning they put on here. I stayed here to be close to a family member in Good Hope Hospital(walking distance 10mins) and was the Townhouse was the best option.

It was ok. We knew music would be loud but would be nice if you supplied ear plugs. Huge room and no wardrobe. Very warm, towel heater was on in bathroon. Waste of energy.
Carmel, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

While the staff were pleasant and helpful, the room we were assigned need some TLC, the woodwork around the windows need a good portion of decorating; the shower screen in the bathroom need some rubber, the water keeps seeping out from under the screen wetting up the bathroom floor; because the bath is high to step in, they need a bath rail or handle so that more mature customers can able enter the bath. They could install a small fridge in the room with some water at least; the supposed bedside table where the lamps are not even one plug socket if customer wish to charge their phone, have to go across the room to charge the phones; the room was not smelling fresh upon entering, smells mouldy, but the very helpful receptionist addressed that. If some more attention is given to these rooms then this will be a good place to overnight or for weekend.

FAMILY ROOM

We had originally booked for 2 double beds in one room, when arriving we were in a family room with a double and 2 singles. I had checked with the hotel on the Thursday to ensure we had 2 double beds and all was agreed. The Lady on reception sorted an extra room for us with another double bed, no issues at all. Our shower in the family room had no hot water. When checking out I would’ve explained this issue only the woman on reception Sunday was on the phone. So never had chance. Other than that our room was spacious and modern. Bathroom could’ve been cleaned a little better and the hot towel radiator could’ve worked.

Very disappointing

The first thing to note about this hotel is that it does not have double glazing, but some rooms are on a main road, which can get noisy. The TV is at a stange angle to the bed, and there is nowhere else comfortable to sit. The shower was poor, with a poor flow coming at strange direction from the head. The shower cubicle was small, despite there being plenty of space for something bigger. Due to difficulty shutting the shower door a pool of water formed in one corner after the 2nd morning (Tuesday), this was still there on the Friday when I left. It says in the listing daily housekeeping, however all this seems to consist of was the window being opened. My coffee cup was cleaned/changed twice during a 5 night stay. The key comes attached to a large fob, which shows the name of the hotel and room number. Perfect for crooks if you lose it, really needs sorting out. Very disappointing and definitely wouldn't go back or recommend. The only plus is that it's close to the station, but that is all.

Disappointing

Before I start I would like to say there was a lovely lady that worked at reception (Andreea I believe) who set the room up for our anniversary out of her own pocket, this was the highlight of our stay and we’re very grateful for her generosity. Our overall experience was very disappointing, especially considering we were celebrating our anniversary. To start the first room (116) we were given had stains in the bath, a loose toilet seat, dead flies and a terrible breeze from the windows. We raised awareness of the lack of internet to reception and we still received no working internet for the two nights we stayed. We then got swapped to a different room for the night (202), on first glance this room looked promising, however we first noticed that the window was being held open by a wooden plank, we shut this and discovered that the protection window did not shut fully, the floor was not vacuumed, there were dead leaves and wasps on the floor and windowsill. The shower leaked terribly and flooded the whole floor, the floor remained wet the whole night. In the morning we woke up to find an alive hornet behind the blind above our bed, The following night we got put in room 117, it was horrific, “expect loud music” is an understatement, the whole room shook till early morning. Checked out of the hotel to receive a rude message from the manager regarding my concerns. Would not waste your money here.
2-night trip

2/10 Poor

I have to say that the playing of loud thumping music on the night (Saturday night) of my stay in the bar downstairs until 02:30 in the morning is 100% effective in ensuring no-one staying in a Royal Sutton Hotel room can possibly get any sleep what-so-ever. My naivety in booking a hotel above a disco I suppose but, rest assured, it will never happen again. I do thing that any advertisements for The Royal Sutton should carry a stark warning that SLEEP INPOSSIBLE BEFORE 02:30 AM is a fact. You're welcome ......

Nightclub until 2am

Inital impressions were favourable, easy parking, friendly staff, and a nice room recently refurbished. First clue we had to the inadequate soundproofing was early evening when there was a live band in the pub below. Every word. every note, could be heard clearly. After the band finished around 9pm the disco started and continued until 2am. Heavy bass beats physically shook the bed and decibel levels averaged 67db and peaked at 91db. Needless to say, not much sleep was had and my tinnitus today is raging. No mention on the hotels.com site or when checking in. Shame that it spoilt what could have been z pleasant stay
Paul, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Ok for a couple of nights, staff were great

Good sized double room with shower/bath, nice and light, found the bed comfortable. hanging space for clothes. Iron and ironing board(though only 2 hangers), tea/coffee/biscuits, hair dryer. Staff helpful and very friendly, free parking, nice selection on breakfast menu. Fresh towels provided on our 2nd day and bed made and tea/coffee refreshed. Down side was our room faced the road which was very busy and noisy, also very stuffy, though we opened a window second night and actually slept reasonably well despite the noise ( probably because I barely slept the night before). To be fair staff did offer to see if they had another room but we were only there 2 nights in any case. Shower a bit slippery so could probably do with a shower mat and extractor didn't seem to work. TV reception was poor.
