I booked Mad Monkey because it is supposed to be a social/party hostel and was extremely disappointed. The facilities are nice and the room is good for a hostel, with a private bathroom, but they do not offer the social experience that they sell. Unlike other social hostels, there are basically no activities and no people from the hostel helping with the social aspect. My first full day was a Saturday and I was -obviously- expecting there to be some kind of activity but, despite the sign saying that there were going to be games, there were no activities in the hostel bar and no one from the hostel at all. This discouraged people from staying there, making it completely dead. The same happened on Monday, where the supposed activity also did not happen. I joined their pub crawl on Sunday, which was super expensive, took us to the most obvious locations, and only gave the free shot at one of the locations. Once more, the people from the hostel were making no effort and even left early. At a certain point, we were lost because they didn’t wait for everyone and just left before the next bar. The reception also barely speaks English, and provided me with wrong information several times. In summary, while the hostel facilities are nice, there are cheaper hostels (or even hotels) in Bangkok that would be more worth your money. The only reason to book Mad Monkey would be the social aspect and they do NOT offer that.
Everyone I spoke to during my trip shared this view as well.
