North Beach gem
Quirky historical Edwardian hotel rebuilt after the great quake and fire in 1906. Small rooms which are being converted to have en suites but the current shared shower and bathrooms are kept v clean. The penthouse is an absolute gem (which is where I stayed last year). Full of fascinating picture and SF memorabilia. Minutes stroll to the heart of North Beach.

8/10 Very good

This is a cute older building with nicely decorated "antique" rooms. It's basically a "bed and breakfast" type hotel, minus the breakfast area. The rooms are small, with just maybe a small chair and a sink in the room. But here are a lot of shower and toilet areas, a cluster of two showers and two toilets for every group of rooms, on several floors. Everything is nicely done, with privacy and convenience in mind. So if you are looking for five-star services and a brand new type hotel, this isn't it. But if you want a clean, beautiful "bed and breakfast' type hotel in a great location, this is perfect.

Quiet and good value if you don't mind a shared bathroom down the hall. Safe area, near to Columbus Ave and a short walk to Fishermans Wharf. I first stayed here in 1999 and it hasnt changed a lot which is a good thing!

6/10 Good

The rooms smelled of some kind of terrible perfume which aggravated my allergies. It was probably some kind of spray to mask odors. The bathrooms were clean. It was one step above a youth hostel. It had a very interesting history. Very quiet.
