4/10 Fair

Dreadful, particularly at the cost!

I paid nearly £300 for a one night stay (more than I usually pay in the City of London) because it is right next door to the railway station and we were catching a train to Edinburgh early the following morning. I checked that it had a lift as we were travelling for 3 weeks hiking and camping as well as visiting cities so would have heavy cases to manoeuvre. The most positive word I can use to describe the member of staff who checked us in is ‘disinterested’ and It was only when I asked how to find the lift that he said that the lift was broken and that we should use the stairs. No offer of help was made even though my husband and I are obviously older, I had to ask for it. He said he would bring the bags up at some point. As we were leaving our room 30 minutes later we met him on the landing, he just put the bags down where he was, turned around and went back downstairs without a word. The corridor outside our room was being used as a store for linen bags. When we arrived they were all closed up but by the time we went down for breakfast they had all been opened up for the housekeeping staff to use. The corridor itself was in a very poor state. The room was clean, but very dated and the paintwork in the bathroom definitely needed some work. I’m not sure if health & safety law is the same in Scotland as in England but if it is, the bathroom blind in the bathroom is illegal as it doesn’t have a chain safety clip fitted.

A ROYAL Location

We selected this property due to its location to the train station. Close to everything we wanted to see and do. The breakfast was wonderful. We had one dinner at the hotel and it was excellent. I would have rated the entire property excellent except the lift wasn’t working and we climbed a lot of stairs with luggage. Other than that - I’d stay again

A good, convenient, hotel

The hotel is very conveniently located right next to the RR station. The room was quite large and comfortable. The breakfast was not very good so we found restaurants outside (which were nearby).

Good, but has potential to be better

Stayed for just the one night. Receptionist very welcoming and polite. The reception area is very beautiful and tastefully decorated; with plenty of tartan and a sweeping central staircase. There is also a left luggage facilities for guests which Infound useful in the morning as I wanted to do some exploring before making my way to the airport. I did not have any food at the hotel choosing instead a local Wetherspoons. The actual room was well equipped and the bed comfortable. However the fixtures and fittings and decor in the room looked 'tired' and could do with a refresh. Not a complaint just an observation

2/10 Poor

Avoid. Worst service.

Due to a problem with the rooms they were unable to fulfil our booking - which we only then discovered on arrival. We were moved to a far inferior hotel with no offer of a refund of the difference. Awful service.

A grand hotel, slightly worn

This has always been a nice hotel to stay in, very central in Inverness and right alongside the railway station (which is why I use it, as a resident elsewhere in the Highlands). It was grand once, and they are working hard to keep it in good condition, but it has a slightly worn feel, with signs of damp around the shower for example. However, the bed was comfortable, there was tea and coffee making facilities with complimentary biscuits, and a good quality TV. It was a welcome respite after a long, disrupted rail journey from London!

6/10 Good

Random stay for a couple vacation.

I must credit that it is pretty well maintained for such an old hotel. Quite suprise to see the tiny bottles, shampoo, body bath coz most hotels have changed to refillable bottles in support of sustainability efforts. The bed is really tiny. Definately not even a queen. Maybe a super single plus. Sink is choked to the brim & drains very slowly. No refrigerator, no A/C, just a fan. Parking available but at 1st come 1st serve. Gonna be lucky coz non residence are hogging the lots & the hotel does not help manage it. Overall, the location is a plus. Very centralised & walkable to most attractions.

Station

A wonderful old hotel, so convenient for public transport users, especially the train. Well that was why it was built. It would always be my first choice of places in Inverness. If you wish to be negative you could say finding the upper rooms is not straightforward. To me, that's a great characteristic - you may find yourself coming down by the right or left side of the wonderful staircase - it's very bonnie.

The hotel is just outdated - carpets could use a deep clean, shower grout needed some upkeep and some of the wall paper is coming off due to age. The staff is friendly and this hotel is centrally located.

6/10 Good

Rooms were very dated with damaged furniture (desk) and dented electric heater on the wall. The restaurant was very overpriced - £25 for basic fish and chips which had raw batter - and service was lacking. After waiting to get someone’s attention for about 15 minutes, in an almost empty room, I got up and order a drink at the bar. Better options in the area for the price.

6/10 Good

Expected better fro the price

The location is good next to the station and the hotel has character. However there was a lot of noise from outside the room, including the cleaners vacuuming the corridor at 0745 on a Sunday morning. We stayed two nights but the room was not serviced by housekeeping, apparently reception should have explained that a note has to be hung on the door for the room to be serviced, but that information was not passed on and was not written down in the room. The room was in the mid-pricing point, so I expected better service and less noise.

2/10 Poor

Hotel is falling apart. The window of the toilet in the room could not close properly, heating not working as it should, smelly elevator. Staff ready doesn't care about anything. Terriible ans expensive breakfast. Avoid at al coats.

Historic hotel historic rooms

The hotel is a historic building and undoubtedly shows its age, at least in the room I had. I had a cosy room on the 3rd floor which was exactly that, cosy, but did the job. Hotel location is excellent right by the train station
