Accessibility!
The lack of mobility information in the description of the property caused a lot of problems for my wife and I. We were giving a room/apartment which was approximately 200 yards from the main house. You had to negotiate a very dark lane which was pitted with many holes and gullies. Then you had to climb 40 steps up on a very narrow stairwells, this was also very poorly lit. I’m 72 with heart disease and arthritis and I struggled to get up those stairs. However the room/apartment was very large with a lounge/kitchen area, a king bed in a separate room and a very large bathroom with shower and tub. If I had been 20 years younger I would have relished staying here. The duty manager, Anthony, was absolutely fantastic and gave a us a room in the main building, although it was only a quarter of the size of what we had paid for and with a very small bed, we were nevertheless very grateful and felt safer in this room. The other downside was the lack of staff to help us. We were just given the keys and were expected to sort ourselves out. I asked for assistance, however I was informed that all the staff were busy with the bar and restaurant. To be fair the staff were extremely busy, but that seemed to be down to the lack of staff working, to the amount of guests present. Our original room was 33, in the detached building and should only be booked by those with no mobility problems. Breakfast choice was non existent and very poor, causing us to eat out on the 2nd day.

Beautiful old home. Staff were great. Breakfast just Ok. Need bigger trash cans in rooms. Nice if you could supply a few sodas in room refrigerator. You offer small bottles of liquor but no mixers. We had two mice in our first room. Changed to room 1 which was much nicer. Bathrooms are small with no place to put bath supplies, make-up, etc. avoid room 12. The staff makes this this property.

Short on elegance regarding food at this B&B
Disappointed that we were not IN the historic home; no accommodation for 3 or more apparently. For the price & elegance of the home, breakfast was dismal, shameful: canned biscuit, 1 bacon, scrambled egg, fruit. Don’t remember description disclosing there were lots of stairs to room; no elevator. No extras of blankets, TP, or towels; have to ask. Otherwise , it was clean & convenient location to sights & good restaurants.

There is a reason why we always stay here when we are in Vicksburg…the staff makes us feel so welcome! We always travel with our dog, and she is also welcomed! We stayed here on our way back from vacation in Fort Worth Texas. It is the half way point. We can’t brag enough on the staff, very pleasant and accommodating. The room was cozy and clean. The house is so full of history and beautiful. We will definitely stay our next trip to Texas. We didn’t take time to eat breakfast but next time we will make time to take advantage of dinner and breakfast options for sure. The only negative which isn’t really negative is there is no elevator and we stayed on the 3rd floor and had to carry luggage up two flights of stair that each have 20 steps 🙁. This isn’t made evident when choosing your room.
