I have nothing but love and Respect for Oakland, Ca. I can't think of another U.S city that gets as much disrespect as they do. They've always been treated like the ugly stepchild in the shadow of S.F. But Oakland is beautiful and deserves respect.

Oaklandia had great coffee and breakfast if you miss the hotel breakfast. Kon Tiki & Beeryland were walkable as well as Fox Theater. The Black Panther Museum was also close as well as a really wonderful comic book shop.

Oakland seems to have a bad reputation but it was a great city and we found some nice things to do including some hiking. Fairyland was a great place for our toddler and 8 year old.

Public transportation with the BART is an absolute joke, it should not cost more than an hour minimum wage to go one way on public transit

Oakland absolutely has its pockets that have garnered a terrible reputation which gets used as the description for the overall area. To be fair, there are some wonderful and safe neighborhoods in the East Bay with very passionate communities.

Probably not the safest place at night. There are signs posted in certain areas about the many car break-ins. Best to allow Valet Parker's to park your car. That being said, there are lots of good restaurants and entertainment spots.

Great place to visit and go to concerts at the Fox theater. We felt safe walking around at night and didn't have any issues. Not a lot of late night food options besides hot dog carts and convenience stores.

Oakland was great! We were a little hesitant based on things we had heard and there are definitely areas to avoid but this is not one of them and we had a wonderful time in Oakland and San Francisco
"Beds were vwry comfortable and pillows. Very clean and courteous staff. We had one issue with the ac but they were on top of fixing it very quickly.8 Breakfast was good and they had alot of options. Property was very safe and security was 24-7 on the streets. Very close to the bart transportation. "
"I did have a great stay here with some minor caveats. The early check-in at 2 for $30 is not my favorite. Although my king bed room was truly giant (bigger than a few apartments I've lived in) there were no windows to the outside world (only a small one to the hallway/walkway, right at eye level for anyone outside if my blinds were open.) The sound proofing left a lot to be desired - with laminate floors and a large gap under the door, you can hear even the quietest of sounds. Their bed was incredibly comfortable. the room was pristine, and the location is so so convenient."
"Great place to stay, close to BART and Jack London Square. The only draw back was the air conditioner in my first room froze over and the second did not cool very well. Other than that it was clean and a pleasant stay."
