The hotel and pool area were a bit tired and did not feel like the luxury that the brochures promised. In contrast, the reception area was beautiful and the evening pianist and singers et cetera were very good. The rooms need a good makeover. The location is very good for accessing the river boats and the skytrain.

Great location for a relaxed weekend - breakfast by the water and cocktails at Lebua in walking distance. Worth getting the room with the balcony for the river. Very helpful staff. Only glitch was that the Thai restaurant is only open for dinner!

Staying in the Krungthep river view king size bed room. The room is very spacious and clean, I was worried after reading some reviews that it would be tired, but, far from it, everything was clean and working. Being Bangkok, the balcony was noisy from road and river traffic but if you want to get a bit quieter walk to the main pool rather than the one in front of wing. The staff were all smiles and very pleasant.

Last night in Bangkok.
We booked for our last day in Thailand and birthday treat. When we got to our lovely room with view of pool and river, the hotel arranged a lovely chocolate cake,roses and happy birthday on the tv screen.Lovely surprise.staff very helpful and polite very attentive.such a relaxing vibe at this hotel. Restaurant very good great views at night watching the boats and in the day you can see the fish in the river. Hotel decor was elegantly finished.The bar made the best cocktails which came with little bar snax.
The pool nice and relaxing with fresh towels provided.

Exceptional Stay
Our stay was wonderful, the rooms are spacious, beds very comfortable ( including the sofa pull out bed) the breakfast was excellent. Front desk was very helpful in arranging transportation.

Solid hotel with great views of the river. Old school fit out so not for those young and trendy travellers looking for modern accomodation. Food was good albeit pricey, spent AUD$500 on dinner for two including drinks.

POOR
THE ROOM 2225 IS JADED THE FITTING ARE OLD THAT NEED TO REFURNISH. FREE SNACKS WERE NOT REPLENISHED AFTER THE NEXT GUESS HAS LEFT. ONLY THE DRINKS WERE LEFT OVER WHEN WE CHECKED IN. WE ASKED FOR IT BUT WAS TRUNED DOWN. WE DID NOT EXPECT A 5-STAR HOTEL TO BE SO STINGY.

Not 5 star quality
This hotel is starting to look a bit tired and room furnishings in particular looks dated. The big gripe for us is that although we are staying for a total of 12 days this trip and staying in a premium room we were advised that that was insufficient to warrant the provision of an espresso machine which were reserved for suites. Seriously Shangri-la We are staying at 4 other 5 star hotels this holiday including The Shore, Banyan Tree and Sametnangshe Boutique - all excellent hotels - which provide coffee machines as standard. Here we get a couple of sachets of instant coffee granules. Pretty shocking for an allegedly prestigious hotel chain.
