Awful experience!!! Part 1
I am not sure where to start, as there were many things that frustrated us during our stay at Canto del Sol. My husband and I chose to stay at Canto del Sol because I had stayed at this same hotel for a month back in 2015. My experience at that time was very positive, so we decided to return. First of all, the hotel building has not been updated since 2015. Everything looks old and run-down, but that was not the main problem. The hotel was severely understaffed. We could not even get clean towels or toilet paper during the week of December 30 to January 3. The restaurant lacked variety in its food offerings. For example, there was no cheese or bananas for breakfast! When we asked, we were told they only had what was available on the buffet. On some days, the tide was high, so during our 16-day stay at the hotel, no chairs from the hotel were allowed on the beach! We had to rent chairs from vendors or stand and walk the entire day on the beach. When we asked security guards if we could take chairs from the hotel to the beach, we were told it was not possible. Meanwhile, all the other hotels had their chairs out on the beach. Guests at Canto del Sol had no such privilege and were left renting chairs from beach vendors. What a shame! During a trip to Las Ánimas Island, we noticed that even there—where the tide was higher—restaurants still provided chairs on the beach, occasionally allowing the water to touch them. Nice weekend stay, family of 6 adults
We stayed for 4 days and it was nice, we never struggled to find a place to sunbathe, never took too long to find a table at the buffets, and we liked the food and the drinks. The only inconvenience is the check in and check out process, took a lot of time and was a very cumbersome.

This resort has gone down hill. It caters to the Mexican nationals and lets them and their kids run loose and uncontrolled. The food at the Buffet has suffered since covid. Concierge service is 3rd class. My room was at the very end of the hotel and the shower leaked all over the floor and I had to use the towels to mop most of it up daily. The safe looked like it was from the 1930-40's. The floor had dried paint drips all over the floor,. and the sheets on the bed (bottom) were to small for the size of the bed. It being 2024 you would thing that the hotel could at least upgrade to a fitted sheet. I stayed at this resort over 8 times in the past and was very disappointed to see how much it has changed. I am not sure if I will be coming back to it. I think on my next trip, I will be trying out the Pelicano's right next door.

The Canto del Sol is a nice quaint relaxing, not fancy, resort. Our room upgrade was a very nice surprise being a returning customer. The majority of the resort was booked by Spanish people so communication was a challenge at times. Overall great stay & will return.
