Perfect location with quirky charm
I enjoyed my stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly around checking in and out of the hotel. The location is fantastic for walking to the bars, restaurants and shops of the West Village and Chelsea, and with a subway stop right at the corner you'll have no trouble getting around. The rooms are quirky, so if you're worried about space you may want to look for a more traditional option. My superior double was perfect for one person, and I appreciated having the option of watching Turner Classic Movies on the in-room TV (in keeping with the hotel's vintage film decor). Be aware that it is an older hotel with older amenities, so don't expect a fresh modern soaker tub. The shower was old, and looked old, but good enough for a weekend. I was a bit surprised that milk wasn't provided for coffee/tea in the mornings. I was told it was "on rotation only." The homemade sweet bread was amazing, and in a lovely breakfast area. Hotel was quiet, and I could only barely hear the street noise (surprising for New York!). As others have mentioned, the rooms are really warm (even in winter), but not bothersome.

Very good
Very good hotel for the price! Good continental breakfast. The room could be better since it was close to the breakfast area. But, overall, the hotel was a positive surprise.

Great neighbourhood, clean room, quiet sleep, and friendly staff. It's quaint but I'd stay there again.

Great place to Stay in NYC
Friendly staff, good breakfast, comfortable beds (pillows not so much), clean and a nice movie star theme. Would definitely stay here again.

Quirky, friendly, fab location
Loved this place at the price I paid, which was less than their usual posted rates. The front desk staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful, even remembering my name by day 2! Half a block to the blue line subway, making it a cake walk to get around--even to and from JFK. Good quality continental breakfast included. Great Chelsea location near the High Line. Not recommended if you can't climb stairs easily--it's a walk-up. It's a little quirky and could be a little cleaner (although the bathroom was immaculate, so that's good). If you can get snag this at a good price, go for it. How much time do you stay in your hotel room anyway in New York? Oh, and the pizza joint across the street is really good...
