Phi Phi Islands’ best shopping opportunities are fairly limited compared to other destinations in Thailand. Most travellers come to this tropical island to enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities, rather than shopping for branded items. As a result, most of the interesting goods you can find here are the usual, basic holiday items.

Despite this, a few stores stand out from the lot, offering original articles and souvenirs for sale. While on holiday, it’s always fun to crawl through bazaar-like shops, trying to find unusual gifts to bring back home. Find the best places to go shopping in Phi Phi Island, most of which fit just that purpose.

    • Shoppers

A visit to Phi Phi Market is an occasion to get a glimpse of genuine daily life on the island. Located in the central part of Tonsai Village, the market offers a great choice of local and exotic products – fruits, vegetables, seafood – that you could find later in your plate when dining at Phi Phi's restaurants.

Besides seafood and coconut, just about all food items are imported from Phuket and Krabi. Besides fresh products (and in the same vein as any market in Thailand), the main interest of Phi Phi Market is the ready-made snacks, available at rock-bottom prices From steamed or fried skewers and sautéed meat to noodles and vegetables, you can find and sample all many Thai street foods at Phi Phi Market.

Location: In the centre of Tonsai Village, Phi Phi Island, Ao Nang, Krabi 81000, Thailand

    Tonsai East Shopping Alleyway

Browse through over a dozen stalls

    Tonsai East Shopping Alleyway
    • Shoppers

Tonsai East Shopping Alleyway is located on the main path towards Phi Phi Andaman Legacy Resort. The street is lined with stalls selling homemade beads, T-shirts, sarongs, shorts and lots of holiday knick-knacks.

The area doesn't really host the same stalls permanently, so it's pretty difficult to make a precise description of all the items available here. Still, if you’ve forgotten your frisbee or beach ball, or if you’re in the market for a hand-woven bracelet or a pair of knock-off brand sunglasses, Tonsai East Shopping Alleyway might have what you're looking for.

Location: Past Rimlay Resort on the left, Phi Phi Island, Ao Nang, Krabi 81000, Thailand

Open: Daily from 10am until late

    Tonsai Pier shops

The gateway to Phi Phi Island

    Tonsai Pier shops

Tonsai Pier is the bustling transport hub that welcomes boats and ferries to Koh Phi Phi. As this is the first place that most visitors to the Phi Phi Islands see, it's no surprise that there are plenty of shops around it. Immediately next to the pier is a small selection of shops selling food, souvenirs, tickets and tours – great for a post-voyage snack or grabbing a couple of last-minute souvenirs before boarding the boat home.

A few steps further inland, there's a large complex that's roughly triangular in shape. It stretches right across the island to Loh Dalum Beach and is effectively the closest thing Phi Phi has to a mall. It houses an array of small local shops selling souvenirs, electronics, luggage and more. There's a small emergency clinic and multiple restaurants here, too.

    7-Eleven

    For your convenience

    7-Eleven
    • Shoppers

7-Eleven is a 24/7 convenience store that sells just about everything you'd need, from drinks and snacks to sunscreen and makeup. As everything on Phi Phi island (except the coconuts) is brought from either the mainland or Phuket by boat, elevated prices are expected.

Even so, 7-Eleven still remains the cheapest of convenience stores on the island – many of which belong to the resort or hotel directly next to or behind them.

Location: Near the pier on the main street and in Central Tonsai, Phi Phi Island, Ao Nang, Krabi 81000, Thailand

    Open: 24/7

    Phi Phi Tattoo Shops

Where to get inked in Phi Phi

    Phi Phi Tattoo Shops
    • Shoppers

Tonsai Village in Koh Phi Phi has over 20 tattoo parlours offering a wide range of designs and styles. As this kind of ‘souvenir’ is permanent, it’s best to think twice before choosing to get inked. Have a look at the shop and see if hygiene conditions are up to standards, then talk seriously with the tattooist about what you want. Negotiate the price until both of you are satisfied.

Most of the tattoo shops in Phi Phi can get you inked by either machine or bamboo. The latter option is generally slightly more expensive but less painful. It's also the traditional way of tattooing in Thailand.
