Silver Beach is a 250-metre-long tropical beach paradise set in a charming little bay just north of Lamai Beach. It faces northeast from the foothills and cliffs separating Lamai from the popular Chaweng area, on the east coast of Koh Samui.

Also known as Haad Thong Ta-khian (which, in Thai, means ‘the beach of the Ta-khian trees’), Silver Beach hosts 4 long-established hotels and restaurants: Crystal Bay Beach Resort, Silver Beach Resort, Thongtakian Resort, and Crystal Bay Yacht Club, which together occupy the full length of the beach. Nevertheless, according to Thai law, even if you’re not staying at one of the hotels you still have free access to this tranquil strip of sand, which offers some particularly good sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling opportunities.

Silver Beach activities and highlights

Silver Beach may be small, but it still has plenty of room to welcome visitors due to the fact it is not (yet) very well-known. The bay is stunning and offers excellent snorkelling opportunities among the rocks at both ends. A few large granite boulder rocks stand in the water and on the beach, obliging swimmers to be a little cautious.

Sea kayaks are available for rent for a small fee at the hotels occupying the beach. There are a couple of beach massage parlours under the shade of the trees that offer a great range of massages, treatments and even manicures and pedicures. Prices here are comparable to anywhere else on Koh Samui.

Where to eat on Silver Beach

Crystal Bay Beach Resort and Spa’s restaurant features a terrace overlooking the emerald waters of the bay. Thai and international favourites are served here from 8 am to 10 pm. Silver Beach Resort & Restaurant's restaurant features both indoor and outdoor areas, also offering great views out to the sea. Being a more recent addition to the landscape, Thongtakian Resort has a contemporary style. The resort’s beachfront restaurant is a great place to dine on local seafood and classic western dishes.

Crystal Bay Yacht Club (aka Samui Yacht Club) is set at the southern end of the beach. It hosts a dive centre – Easy Divers – offering a wide choice of day trips and PADI courses. It also has a beach club/restaurant – Crystal Bay Beach Club – that has live music, a beachfront pool and fresh Thai and international dishes.
