Prague Hotels

At first glance, the jaw-dropping Czech capital resembles something from a Medieval fantasy, with its Gothic spires, winding alleyways, and ancient courtyards. History buffs will no doubt be in their element, with all manner of pristine historical buildings and atmospheric cobbled squares to peruse. But it’s also a vibrant, progressive city, awash with elegant shopping arcades, an increasingly eclectic restaurant scene, and cutting-edge galleries and cultural venues. Then, of course, there’s the nightlife – pubs are an integral part of local culture, and you’ll find them wherever you look, serving some of the finest beer you’ll ever taste, at bargain prices.

Things to see

The magisterial Prague Castle is an obvious must-visit attraction. Towering over the city, this fairy tale-like construction is the largest ancient castle in the world, with an incredible history that stretches back to 870. It’s a fascinating mish-mash of architectural styles, with its Gothic cathedral, Romanesque basilica, and Classical facades. A meander across the iconic Charles Bridge is another quintessential Prague travel experience. Commissioned by King Charles IV in the 14th century, it’s a marvel to behold, hewn from Bohemian sandstone, and decorated lavishly with Baroque statues. Today it doubles up as a raucous makeshift market, packed with colorful hawker stands and brash buskers. From here, continue on to the nearby Old Town Square, and kick back with a coffee at one of the cute pavement cafés, while taking in the marvelous spectacle of the beautifully preserved churches and towers that surround you.

Hotels in Prague

There’s a fantastic choice of hotels in Prague to suit every budget and preference. You’ll find world-class, luxury hotels, which boast decadent facilities like state-of-the-art health clubs, heated indoor pools, and soothing steam rooms. Mid-range accommodation is plentiful – you’ll have no problems finding a centrally located hotel, offering great perks like flat-screen TVs, room service, and free buffet breakfasts, all for a very reasonable price. If you’re traveling on a shoestring budget, there are also smart backpacker hostels and B&Bs, where you can enjoy essential amenities like free WiFi and attraction ticket services.

Where to stay

The Old Town is the atmospheric, historical heart of the city. It’s a fantastic place to base yourself if you’re visiting for the first time – you’ll find a number of Prague’s finest hotels here, some of which enjoy prime, riverfront locations. Many major sights and attractions are within easy walking distance, alongside a veritable array of gourmet restaurants, traditional pubs, and chic nightclubs. Adjacent to this sits the New Town, where you’ll find the iconic Wenceslas Square, with its glitzy casinos, and treasure-packed book stores. It also boasts unbeatable transport links, as it’s served by all 3 metro lines. East of the city center, you’ll find the fun-filled, bohemian Žižkov district, which is positively packed with quirky bars, eateries, and budget hotels.

How to get to Prague

Václav Havel International Airport is handily located around 18 kilometers from the city center. You can fly here direct from major cities all over Europe, or from long-haul destinations such as New York, Toronto, Dubai, and Seoul. Once you land, there are regular public bus and private shuttle services available – the journey into central Prague should take 30-50 minutes, depending on traffic. Fixed price taxis are also readily available, or you may want to consider hiring a car, particularly if you plan on exploring the surrounding region.
