At the best golf courses in Bangkok, any golf enthusiast coming to Thailand can enjoy 18 holes while experiencing the beauty of manicured links and fairways. There are country clubs suiting all skill levels. Golf in Thailand is always played with your own personal caddie (usually a beautiful young lady… or a knowledgeable old one), who will offer tips on club selection, fetch drinks and help with any other request, all with the good nature of an old friend.

It is best to set off for a round of golf in the early morning because the midday sun in Thailand can be intense. With an early morning breeze blowing through the palm trees and a bright orange sun hanging low in the sky, golfing at any of these courses in Bangkok offers you a most memorable experience.

    Alpine Golf & Sports Club

    Alpine Golf & Sports Club
    • Adventure

Alpine Golf & Sports Club is one of the most technically difficult and visually stunning courses in Thailand. It’s often remembered as the site of Tiger Woods’ Johnnie Walker PGA Tour victory back in 2000. The course is impeccably maintained with rolling fairways and a series of water and sand hazards. The name Alpine is a reference to the hilly landscape, and while ‘alpine’ is a little exaggerated, the changes in altitude are unique to the typically flat landscape in the Bangkok area.

This course is challenging in the extreme. Long drives leave little room for error, and unless you have a machete ready to hack through the jungle, sliced shots will result in plenty of lost balls. Are you up for the challenge?

    • Adventure

Thai Country Club is unbeatable in terms of overall experience as it offers world-class facilities, professional caddies and an interesting variety of holes. This prestigious golf club has seen among the world’s best play here, and although it is a technically difficult course, wayward shots can often be recovered with a shot out of the scrub. Experienced golfers looking for the complete package often state Thai Country Club as the #1 course in Thailand.

Hazards are as attractive to look at as they’re difficult to play around, with water features ringed by palm trees and gently undulating landscapes. It’s the perfect example of a tropical golf course. The clubhouse also serves an excellent daily buffet lunch, a fitting complement to a round of golf.

    Lam Luk Ka Country Club

    Lam Luk Ka Country Club
    • Adventure

Lam Luk Ka Country Club is built on wetlands and is home to many tropical species of plants and animals for an unforgettable round of golf that is distinctly Thai. The variety of trees also provides welcoming shade – something you’ll be very thankful of if you have a midday tee off. There are 2 full 18-hole courses at Lam Luk Ka so reservations are usually easier to guarantee than at other courses. For intermediate players, the West Course offers a more modest challenge as the fairways are wide and the distances achievable with woods or irons – although several sloping greens still make putting a real test.

Natural, leafy and green: Lam Luk Ka feels a million miles away from the hectic streets of Bangkok, but it’s actually an hour outside of the city. This is one of the most relaxing courses to play in the Bangkok area with a natural soundtrack of birdsong and a clubhouse overlooking the 18th hole.

    Subhapruek Golf Club

    • Adventure

Subhapreuk Golf Club is a fairly flat course with pleasant breezes and partial shade from palm trees lining the fairways. Big hitters aren’t really rewarded here as holes are typically shorter than at other top-end courses, making it a great course for a leisurely game. Several par-4 holes offer good opportunities for low scores, although water features around the par-3s can be fairly tricky. Subhapreuk Golf Club is a favourite of the corporate crowd and gets busy on weekends, so it’s best to book for a round on a weekday if possible.

What we love: A course for varying abilities, with lines for intermediate or advanced players make Subhapreuk a great option for foursomes of different levels of proficiency. It also has a cool driving range, with island targets surrounded by water.

Thana City Golf & Country Club

    • Adventure

Only 25 minutes from downtown Bangkok, Thana City Golf Course is a tricky course that will make you think hard about the shots you take, especially approach shots, as almost all greens are guarded by hazards on every hole. Designed by the legendary Australian golfer Greg Norman, Thana City has several long holes which are a challenge without a trusty fairway wood or punchy iron. Of course, it’s not all hard work and a round here is delightful. It’s designed as the centrepiece of a luxury condominium development, with streams and lakes dissecting the course.

The experienced caddies offer invaluable advice about approach shots on the ever-narrowing fairways. The clubhouse is also excellent, with a range of International cuisine and one of the best stocked and reasonably priced golf shops in Bangkok. For longer stay guests there is also a golf academy to help perfect your game.
