    The traboules are a network of hidden, covered passageways linking Lyon’s Old Town’s buildings to each other and to the River Saone. Built in the 4th century, their purpose was to permit the silk industry’s workmen to safely transport their precious textiles out of the rain. Today, about 40 of them are open to the public.
