My business trip to Melrose
Nice peaceful local area, good pub and ok room, breakfast not serviced until after 8am, nobody in hotel before 7.45am, £10 deposit for room key, small car park.

Not the best
Position in the centre of Melrose was excellect and the beds were comfortable. But our room was rather tired and grubby and the shower did not work. Breakfast was not particularly good.

Our room was too small and not in good repair
First the positive: The staff was helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant, both breakfast and dinner, was excellent. The problem was with the room itself (our room #7, a double bedded room). Because the room was so small the double bed was not the typical queen sized bed.. Then, there was less than two feet on either side of this smaller bed. There was little space for luggage. Being at the end of the hall, the WIFI did not reach the room most of the time. As the floors sloped, the tub was at an angle so water from the shower ran onto the floor unless we made a dam with a towel. In retrospect, as a couple with luggage we should have booked a King room but none were available after we checked in. While parking is implied, the lot is mostly covered by patio tables, making parking limited and difficult. It is possible to get blocked in the lot by other cars. Be aware there is no elevator.

GOOD CENTRAL LOCATION WITH FRENDLY STAFF
The hotel is in a good location right in the centre of Melrose with young, helpful staff. Good room, although the windy stairs to the second floor were a bit problematic for my elderly mother.

Despite clear instruction not to include items of food within my Dinner I got them served to me... had I been allergic or intolerant it could have been serious I would further add the inclusion of said food item would be deeply offensive to some on religious grounds... When the meal was returned from the Kitchen i still noted evidence of the said Item yet worst was to come the meat was uncooked and cold in the middle. I was offered a free drink for myself and my wife for our trouble...but despite making it clear to staff that excluding my meal I would pay for what I had had the bill came with the1st round of drinks excluded...I then had to again pull staff up and demand a new bill... The Hotel staff really need to listen to what they are being told by guests ... The evening meal was a disappointment and it spoiled my stay at the Hotel as such I won't be returning when I next visit the borders

Had a great time.
For the price and the age of the building it was a perfect stay. The meals in the restaurant are beautiful and the staff are lovely. The bar is well priced, who knew you could still get two drinks for £5 now a days.

Tired hotel in great location
Breakfast chef late, but he was v apologetic and very fast when he arrived. We asked for 7:30, but told 8 was first time. He could have come earlier, but it was made clear that wouldn't be a good idea. Hotel easy to find. Decor and facilities all a bit tired. 'Its an old building' .One of reception staff more interested in their mobile phones than attending to us.

2/10 Poor

Nice from the outside that's it
Shower broke, window broke, first morning breakfast didn't even open until 08:50 , no one sleeps on site, staff seemed short of time and patients , room small and dated. Biggest waste of £160 ever I'd say! Only plus was on day 2 when I actually got a breakfast it was decent.

Very Poor..!!
Dreadful experience here from as soon as I walked in. Poor customer service, room was very dusty, TV didn't work, no pressure in the shower, and the shower head looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years..! Requested an iron and just got a shrug of the shoulder..!! Definitely will not be staying here again..!

Not recommended
We stayed here for one night. We could not fault the staff or the food served in the restaurant. The room however was not the cleanest and the en-suite was very basic and simply not up to standard. Would not consider again if we return to Melrose

Central to Melrose
Greeted by someone who didn't know about parking said she wasn't local. Went back for evening meal only to find last orders 6pm that night (Sunday). No heating on and I was very cold in the bedroom and the dinning/breakfast room, but it was cold outside for May. Lots of hot water, comfy bed and nice bedding. Very central. Staff pleasant. It was ok for one night.

Nice location shame about the hotel
On arrival we were told we had only booked 1 room however our confirmation showed 2. From starting to climb the staircase to entering the room it was clear that this place needed refurbished from top to bottom. Only saving grace for us was both the service and quality of breakfast was good.
