My Review
The grounds were nice. There were times when the service wasn't so great. I. emailed the spa twice before arriving to make reservations for a service, but they never responded. My friend asked for her luggage to be carried to the front, and they didn't come. We went to the pool near building 15 before they closed at 6 pm, but the bartender was nowhere to be found, and there were no more towels stocked. The restaurant staff was great, and the rooms were nice! The check-in folks were nice as well!

Disappointing Birthday Experience at Excellence El
I visited Excellence El Carmen in the Dominican Republic for my birthday, hoping for a luxurious getaway, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Positives: The property is beautiful, with well-manicured grounds and clean facilities. Unfortunately, that’s the only good thing I can say about it. Negatives: 1. Service: The service was inconsistent and lackluster. Room service never arrived despite multiple requests, leaving us frustrated and hungry. 2. Food: The food was terrible. Dishes at The Kitchen Table looked old and unappetizing, almost as if they were artificially made. I became sick after dining at the Spice restaurant, even though I avoided drinking the water entirely. Upgrading to the “Excellence Club” made no difference in food quality. 3. Drinks: The liquor was low-grade and disappointing, far below the standards of a luxury resort. Again, the Excellence Club upgrade added no value here. 4. Cleanliness: There was a roach in my room. For a resort claiming to be high-end, this is unacceptable and speaks to poor attention to detail. 5. Dress Codes: The resort enforces outdated dress codes that feel completely unnecessary and out of touch for a modern vacation experience. 6. Entertainment: The Michael Jackson performance lacked energy and was far from entertaining. 7. Fake Reviews: Be wary of glowing reviews online—they seem fake, likely created by bots. This property sure does live up to its name ! If you’re looking for an all inclusive for a special occasion look no further! The honeymoon suite overlooking the Ocean with its own private terrace and pool is a must to book! The excellence club also grants you access to premium liquor, premium bottles on your room, and a private restaurant. The property was clean all throughout and the food was amazing! The staff are very friendly and welcoming and will go above and beyond to make sure you have a good time. Drinks were great and there are numerous bars located throughout the property. Highly recommend this resort will definitely visit back soon !

We had a fantastic 7 day vacation at Excellence El Carmen. Initially when we entered the lobby area we weren't impressed, but the overall experience was great. The staff were very courteous and overall friendly, and the property/ground were super clean. We upgraded to Club level which helped us to access the Magna steakhouse and premium products, high end liquor and reserved section at the beach. The housekeeping staff were very prompt and on top of it to recognize us celebrating my wife's birthday. Germy at the concierge desk was super, he even checked on us while he was on his day off. Franciela the manager was superb to make sure we were happy and took care of a mishap during our stay. Stalin, the spa rep was great. Juan with the luggages, Rocio at the pool, Emmanuel at the martini bar made our vacation so enjoyable. So many to recognize. Magna was great (Tomahawk steak was surprisingly good for a Texas resident). We didn't like the Asian, the Indian restaurant was good but not great. Lobster restaurant was great, I wish they had more fish options to order from. Overall, for an all inclusive resort, I will give high marks for Excellence El Carmen.

The hotel is gorgeous and the staff are what really make the stay special. Jennifer, a hostess on our first night, was also at the breakfast buffet in the morning and she remembered our names!! the activities Director Ramon, made sure we were always included and informed about the many activities by the pool and about the fun shows in the evening. Our server at the pool, Jenny, was amazing! Always smiling and seemed to really enjoy working there.

Property is amazing, very well appointed and very well cared for. A Food is decent for all inclusive, not amazing, not bad. I wish there were more local options and fish selections. Menus were often very Americanized (burgers, wings, etc.) B-/C Service is ok. Waiters are very personable but incredibly slow to take your order. Bartenders are very fast and make great drinks but seem miserable. C Beach is great, sand is incredible soft, no seaweed or rocks upon entry to the water. Water is incredibly warm. A Loungers and pool area are wonderful. Very nice thatch huts with tables and a hook for your beach bag for every pair of lounge chairs both on the beach and poolside. They even give you a beach bag with your room to use while you’re there. A Ambient music was amazing, all bachata, merengue and salsa, definitely made you feel like you were in the Dominican as opposed to some resorts that play all American music. A Private decks & plunge pools in room are wonderfully appointed but not very private. I’d call them semi-private. Even the third floor rooftop ones guests across from you could very easily see you if you wanted to sunbath topless or in the buff. While they’re gorgeous it’s a shame they aren’t truly private. B- Entertainment left much to be desired. I realize entertainment at Caribbean resorts can be a little on the cheesy side but Saturday night was a trivia contest and karaoke. Basically they turned the guests into the entertainment. C-/D

Overall great experience in terms of food and service! Liked that we had no one bothering us regarding any promotions or time shares! Beach service was great. Restaurants take a while for food to be delivered to your table, but room service was quick! However, we Scheduled breakfast in room, but was not delivered (reached out to front desk, but no explanation as far as why it was not left in the room). Also did not receive the champagne bottle as part of expedia perks!
