Bonte Museum
Museum whose building itself is a thing of beauty
- Couples
- Families
- Photo
Bonte Museum, designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, is a beautiful building that forms great harmony between tradition and modern art. The museum building is really stylish as it absorbs sunlight from the southern foot of Hallasan Mountain on Jeju Island and gazes at the sea, blending in well with the natural environment.
It is said that the name, “Bonte,” means “the original form of things” in Korean. Living up to that name, the museum strives to promote folk art crafts, which are a part of Korea’s ancient culture. In addition to Korean traditional handicrafts such as small dining tables and patchwork quilts, the museum also displays the works of Japanese installation artist Yayoi Kusama in its permanent exhibit. She is known for “Pumpkin” featuring a huge pumpkin sculpture with dots as well as the Infinity Mirror Room filled with mysterious glitter. Have some peace while feeling beautiful nature to its fullest at a museum located in the midst of gorgeous landscape.
