9 Best Places to Go Shopping in Jeju Island

Dongmun Traditional Market belongs to a large commercial district in Jeju City, which also houses the Jungang-ro Shopping Street, Chilsung-ro Shopping Street, and Dongmun Underground Shopping Centre. This indoor market has more than 2,000 shops and stalls, so you can find just about everything here. Jeju's special agricultural products and household goods are available at cheap prices. There's a variety of tasty food to enjoy at the market. 

Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market is a traditional market in Seogwipo City. It’s part of the 13.3-km-long Jeju Olle Route 6, which passes Jeju’s downtown and coastline. One of the best things to do in the market is looking for Jeju specialities, such as citrus fruits like Hallabong (seedless mandarin orange), sea bream, and black pork. 

You can also enjoy local dishes that are unique to Jeju, including glutinous millet rice cake (omaegi-teok), Pacific saury rice rolls (kkongchi gimbab), and mixed snacks (modakchigi). Nearby attractions include a cultural and art street called Lee Joong Seop Street, located opposite Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market, and Cheonjiyeon Waterfall.

Jeju Folk 5-Day Market is a regular market located within a 10-minute drive from Jeju International Airport. The market typically opens on the 2nd, 12th, 22nd, 7th, 17th and 27th of every month. It's a long-standing traditional market and a successor to Juseong Market, which first opened in 1906. 

As the name suggests, you can find agricultural products, general merchandise, pottery, medicinal herbs, and blacksmith's workshop at Jeju Folk 5-Day Market. The livestock market is a children's favourite, with plenty of dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds for sale. The Grandmothers Market (Hallmang Jangteo) sells seaweed and vegetables grown by elderly locals. 

Daejeong 5-Day Market, also called Moseulpo 5-Day Market, is the largest market in the western part of Seogwipo. This traditional marketplace usually takes place on the 1st, 11th, 21st, 6th, 16th and 26th of every month. On months with 31 days, it opens on the final day and skips the 1st. 

Vendors at the Daejeong 5-Day Market offer a wide range of Jeju specialities, agricultural and marine products, as well as clothes and household goods. Moseulpo Coast is famous for its delicious raw fish. After exploring the 5-day market, you can enjoy a meal at a nearby dockside restaurant.

Bellongjang Market is a flea market in Jeju that only opens on Saturdays. It takes place in Sehwa-ri, a small town close to Sehwa Beach and Darangsi Oreum. The market is often crowded with locals and tourists looking to shop for handmade goods and souvenirs. Belongjang Market usually opens at 11am, though it varies depending on the season and weather. 

Jungang Underground Shopping Center is the only one of its kind in Jeju, stretching from Gwandeokjeong, the centre of Jeju City, all the way to Sanjicheon. For those who live in Jeju, it’s not only a popular shopping spot but also a place to meet and rest. Spanning a total area of around 10,000 square meters, you can find around 380 stores selling clothing, accessories, cosmetics, shoes, and snacks.

Some shops are open to bargaining – remember to be polite and smile when haggling with the friendly vendors. While the nearby Chilsung-ro Shopping Centre hosts mostly branded products, many shops in Jungang Underground Shopping Center sell no-brand items. If you come out at Exit 3, you will be connected to Chilsung-ro, so you can explore Central Underground Shopping Mall and Chilsung-ro together.

Chilsung-ro is an excellent shopping street adjacent to Dongmun Market and Jungang Underground Shopping Mall. As Jeju lacks department stores, Chilsung-ro Shopping Street is favoured by local youths for its name-brand stores, distinctive shops with unique items, and cafes. You can shop comfortably and take pictures of pretty sculptures on this car-free street in Jeju. 

The streets of Jungjeong-lo have attractive shops and a local market that’s known for street food and local products. If you prefer shopping in a mall, the Dongmyeon Departmental Store has clothes, accessories, and jewellery by international brands. 

The open-air Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market takes place every day, and consists of local vendors displaying goods on the streets. You’ll find women’s clothing with fine embroidery and designs. Don’t miss out on the food stalls here – must-tries include kimchi pancakes, gimbap (Korean seaweed rice rolls), and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes).
