Six Flags Fiesta Texas is a Mexico-themed amusement park just off Interstate 10, on the outskirts of San Antonio. Located about 14 northeast of the city centre, the park contains nearly 40 separate attractions, including 10 rollercoasters, 2 water rides and the tallest super air race ride in the world (at time of writing, though these kinds of records are frequently broken).

The 208-acre park is a popular family attraction in San Antonio, with a great range of facilities to make your day as fun and carefree as possible. It’s split into 5 areas, all of which are dotted with plenty of dining and shopping options as well as restrooms, ATMs, lockers, stroller and wheelchair rental facilities.

What are the highlights of Six Flags Fiesta Texas?

Six Flags Fiesta Texas is known as the Thrill Capital of South Texas. Since 1999, the park’s star attraction has always been Scream, a 205-ft-tall drop tower. The brightly-coloured and 3-legged steel tower can be seen for miles around, and the shocked cries of the riders as they are thrown into the air and bounced up and down travels nearly as far.

Introduced to Six Flags Fiesta Texas in 2021, Dare Devil Dive Flying Machines is the tallest of its kind in the world. Riders board a steampunk-style 4-seater flying machine to experience aerial banks, loops, dodges, dives and other aerobatic manoeuvres as they soar 5 storeys over the park.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas is mostly geared towards older kids, as the majority of the rides is likely to get your adrenaline pumping. However, there are a few tamer options for younger family members, such as the Streamliner Coaster and Foghorn Leghorn’s Barnyard Railway. There’s an entire child-themed section called Kidzopolis, where you’ll find most of the rides suitable for toddlers.

The water rides are mostly concentrated in a single area at the northern end of the park. They include the world’s steepest water slide – Bahama Blaster – and a Texas-shaped wave pool – the Lone Star Lagoon.

What else is there to do at Six Flags Fiesta Texas?

Aside from the rides, Six Flags Fiesta Texas has several live shows running every day. These include musical showcases covering anything from American country to Mexican Mariachi. There’s also a spectacular fireworks display every summer night.

Aside from the daily schedule, there are special events throughout the year. These bring special shows, dining options and prices for Spring Break, Mardi Gras, and other noteworthy periods and holidays.

Good to know about Six Flags Fiesta Texas

While Six Flags Fiesta Texas is relatively modest in size compared to others from the same brand (Six Flags Over Texas in Dallas or Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta, for example), it’s still more than big enough to keep the whole family entertained for a day or 2.

Even so, it’s better to plan your visit for times when attendance is relatively low, particular spring and autumn (April–May and September–October) or weekdays during summer. It’s also smart to plan to have your meals at offpeak hours and to start your day at the rides farthest from the entrance, where the queues will be shortest.

There are certain rules for the waterpark that you should be aware of. You won’t be allowed in if you’re not wearing a lined and family-appropriate swimsuit – street clothes are not permitted in the water areas. Swimsuits with buttons, snaps, rivets and zippers are not allowed, either. Lifevests are available at the park for those who are not confident swimmers. Six Flags Fiesta Texas doesn't provide towels, so bring your own.
