Outstanding Service from Start to Finish

From the moment we checked in with Joshua until our check out we experienced 5 Star Service from each employee we encountered. All the Team members in Don Julio, Asian, Italian and Elite Club we spot on with Hospitality and Service. We spent most of our time at The Elite Club Pool and really appreciated Jeorge and Ruby’s attentive service. They remember our drink of choice and even our Names. A very Special Thanks to Pamela Mendoza who was very Professional and Welcoming. We are Hospitality Professionals and would love to have a Team Member like Pamela on our Teams. She is an outstanding representation of the RIU Brand and carries herself in a Poised and Professional manner. You should feel very privileged that she is part of your Team. We have been searching for 4 years for the place we feel comfortable and would love to call our place in Cancun. We enjoyed every minute we spent at your lovely Hotel and look forward to a return trip in the Fall. Thank You for a Wonderful 7 Days!

Overpromised and under delivered

The saving grace of this place was the view/beach and staff. Some members of hotel management and the overall programming and structure of the offerings did not live up to the marketing or price point. Things that went right: the restaurant servers (Sebastián was awesome), the housekeeping staff, the spa staff (Elizabeth and Irasema were lovely), and the awesome team serving drinks and setting up beach chairs/umbrellas for customers. Things that went wrong: Check-in (when I tried to pay with my Amex card, the registration employee told me I would be charged $200 MORE than the quoted total on hotels.com. At NO POINT was I notified of this up charge during the initial online booking.); forced night time entertainment (live music until 11pm in outdoor stage every night. If you were hoping for an early night… too bad); automatic double doors malfunctioned (one set of doors did not have properly working sensors and the doors closed on my arm. When I told the front desk person/staff, he seemed unbothered, didn’t apologize or inquire about my arm, and didn’t follow up with me to see if I needed care); food options (this is meat and fried food heaven. Aside from having buffet-style meals and several food options at one restaurant, their 4 other dinner restaurants had fixed menus. If you are vegetarían, pescarerian, or vegan, non-buffet options are limited for dinner. While each restaurant had vegetarían items, they weren’t always healthy or nutritionally complete. Overall, MEH.

Loud music spoiled an otherwise great stay.

After staying and enjoying the Palace Las Americas several times my wife and I decided to try the KuKulkan. So these comments are comparing both resorts. Checking in was a breeze and refreshment at the desk was very nice. The brunches were great. Much more variety than at the PLA. The service was excellent as always at the RIU. The room was beautiful. Everything appears to be new as opposed to the aging PLA. The bed was very comfortable. We selected the Elite offering and enjoyed the private dining area as well as the private pool with its cabanas. It was not crowded at all and we received great service from the bar personnel. They were constantly checking on us. We also loved the Coffee bar and the Lounge (sports bar). Now for the negative stuff. We were on the 9th floor facing the courtyard. Every night that they had shows you can expect to hear the loud music from the shows till 10:30. For younger people this might not be a problem. Also the lobby becomes extremely loud in the evening into the night. You can't even have a conversation cause the music is so loud. They type of music was also not to our liking. In this case we really missed the main bar in the PLA which usually had a piano or sax player. The soft music at that bar really helps one relax and hold a conversation. Maybe the K could consider softer music in the lobby bar. I noticed most of the people in the lobby bar were 55+. Maybe the K can poll the people and see what they like. Overall it was a loud resort.

Great resort!

Beautiful new resort and service was incredible! Drinks were average (but you can tell them to make it strong) and the food was subpar. The buffet was ok but mostly stayed the same each day. If you are a foodie, pick somewhere else. Don’t drink water unless it’s bottled. Otherwise, amazing resort!

Clean and fun and relaxing!

I had a wonderful stay at the Riu in Cancun and would definitely return. The entire resort was impressively clean, which made the experience even more enjoyable. It managed to be both fun and relaxing at the same time—a perfect balance for a vacation. There are four pools to choose from, each offering something different: the lively fun pool, a quiet pool for relaxation, the elite pool, and another that offered a mix. I personally avoided the fun pool as it often felt overcrowded and the water wasn’t the most inviting. That said, the variety was appreciated. While lunch options were a bit limited in terms of restaurants, the grill provided a decent alternative. I didn’t try the à la carte restaurants for dinner, but the buffet was excellent across the board—for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The lobby bar was a lovely spot to unwind, and the service throughout the resort was fantastic. I didn’t catch any of the nightly shows, but I heard positive things from other guests. I used the gym, which was just okay. It could benefit from an upgrade—it felt small, lacked modern equipment, and didn’t offer great views. On the other hand, the massage I got at the spa was absolutely fantastic. One of the highlights for me was the room. The views were stunning, and elite club members have access to a private area with comfortable day beds—a great perk. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay.

Best all inclusive ive ever stayed in!! A+++++

There arent enough amazing adjectives to describe how much i loved this resort. It was fun, on a beautiful stretch of beach and the service was impeccable from the moment we pulled up to the front doors. The rooms are comfortable as are the beds (kind of wish they were queen size instead of double). The views are breathtaking from the beach or the numerous pool areas to lounge in sun or shade with multiple infinity pools. Miguel at the pool and loungers had the kindest attitude while doing arduous work of moving loungers and heavy umbrellas all day. Down to the pepes daily bbq guy who fixed my dads plate just right. Down to every waiter and bar tender. Even the hand sanitizer man was the best. Its a few minutes drive to the coco bongo crazy nightlife area but they have so much entertainment there youll never want to leave. I would say what i hope for next time i go is their own late night DJ adult only party as an alternative to the white or jungle party for those over 30. The night entertainment was also excellent, hence why i think you keep the adult vibes going on the property lol rather than party bussing 30-80 yr olds to a vegas 21 yr old pool party at riu caribe being the only entertainment option on Wednesdays. Just have a dj dance party in white for those wanting to skip the foam party. Property was beautiful & clean and fun! But it was the workers who made it an EXCEPTIONAL stay. Oh and the food was also all incredible. Cant wait to go back!

Excellent stay, great service and newer, clean resort. Great pools with plenty of lounge chairs and shade available. Quality of food is good and readily available. Only issue was with over cooked steak, excessively salted steak, bland overcooked lobster tail. Room service was also excellent as was keeping the room stocked with drinks and snacks.

Great adults-only hotel in Cancún!

Awesome resort that we would absolutely come back to. Excellent service the entire time. We ate at Italian restaurant 3 times it was so good. Staff there was great but I’ve forgotten their names. Arron was great at dinner buffet; love his hair. Pool and beach wait staff was exceptional with Jesus, Jhonny and Addy.

It’s a No for Riu

My main issue is with the reception and management. If you use hotels.com, they act like you have a major problem and there is absolutely nothing they can do to accommodate your requests, ie any comps/concessions, even if said comp would be considered appropriate. The front desk staff have zero desire to help. I’ve never felt such a cold response from staff like I did there. They just don’t care because you already paid. I won’t be returning. Aside from the front desk staff, the rooms are set up to view things like first level roofs and the loud road. The design of the building is bad with a lot of rooms with not so great views and long walks from the elevator. The warm tubs in the spa are pointless, as there is very little appeal to sitting in 86F pools. I’m not sure who thought that was a good idea. The buffet is too pork heavy. The lobby should be better air conditioned. I would recommend going to a different hotel. Room service is limited, ie don’t go ordering chicken wings on the menu, it’s only for the “elite” members. Thanks for making me feel special Riu. Sometimes you win some, sometimes you lose, this was a big loss for me($$$)
