We enjoyed the atmosphere with the palapas. The property was clean, well kept and felt safe. We didn’t like it when the beachfront disappeared but they can’t control the weather and tide. The food was good but over-rated for the purpose of billing and value.

Exceptional
A great "kid friendly" property for families with a laid back atmosphere and two nice sized pools. Courteous and friendly staff made us feel at home at all times. We enjoyed the onsite restaurants particularly the breakfast at Las Olas. The kids loved the " treehouse " views from the rooms on the second level.

Favourite Destination Ever!
Simply “Magical”! This was our “10th” return visit to our favourite resort... The setting... the ambiance...the cuisine...and above all the exceptional staff who treat us like family

The property is serene and beautiful, the staff is friendly and efficient. Plumbing is not the best, otherwise a great place to stay, excellent location.

I liked the vibe at Mahekal, it was beautiful, clean and the staff was very friendly. However, I had money stolen from me at the beach so please be careful. I left my wallet by the beach by accident ( I know, my fault) but it was dark and the front reception called to let me know they'd found my wallet. When I went to retrieve it, they said that there was a credit card in there, but no cash. To be honest, I think it was the security guard or the reception because it was under a beach chair and no one at the each would have even seen the wallet unless they had a flash light (It was dark) and only the security guards have flash lights.

Poor
Not happy with the stay. At the reception we asked a lady who worked there if the prices for the spa were in pesos and she said yes. After our massage, we got billed in US dollars. I explained to the lady at the spa that someone at reception told us it was in pesos and she suddenly became so rude to us. She became short and stopped giving us eye contact. I was a very humiliating experience for me, but I still paid the spa using my credit card. The next day I went to the reception again and they said they would give me a 50% off refund on my credit card. ONE MONTH LATER and I still haven't gotten the refund back. I'm very upset that they lied to me TWICE. This is not how you should treat guests. This hotel is just looking for ways to get more of your money. Book somewhere else. Ver disappointing.

Taking Advantage of Solo Guests
I booked a 7 night stay at Mahekal Beach resort in June. The room that I booked was a Garden view Treehouse Palapa. I paid 2,300 CAD for the week which included 2 meals per day. When I was shown my room, I was shocked. It was probably the worst room on the property, the farthest from any restaurant, amenity, or the beach. It was ground level, not a treehouse and it smellled like human waste/backed up sewage. When the front desk attendant walked me to my room I asked him if it was a busy time of year for them and he said no with the exception of some weddings. I tried to air out the room but the smell was not getting any better so I asked the front desk if they had any other rooms available. He said they had 2 available rooms and they both had partial ocean views. When I was shown the rooms, they were the ones you see in the pictures, with a non-human waste smell, not the room I was checked into. He said he would be happy to move me and that it would ONLY cost 95 USD more per night. I met a couple who also booked through this site and they had a similar experience but they were upgraded to a different garden view room AT NO COST. To make matters worse, I had a friend come and stay with me for a 24 hour period. We did not use the pool, or any amenities and we were pestered 3 times by hotel staff and security to PAY MORE MONEY, which included a knock on my door at 1 am after we returned from our night out in Playa Del Carmen telling me I had to pay to have a guest. NOT A CHANCE!

Mahekal Resort is an incredible experience. From the rooms, to the staff or the awesome food - all of it is a world class experience. As someone who never writes reviews I felt compelled to tell everyone how amazing Mahekal is! If you're looking to go on a nice vacation and spoil yourself - look no further. Everything at Mahekal is 5 star. The rooms are newly renovated, clean and gorgeous (I stayed in the Ocean View Palapa Room), the pools are great and the staff really are world class. After years of vacationing in Mexico (Tulum, Cancun, Playa etc.) I've finally found a resort that I will be coming back to year after year.

Laid back vibe was so refreshing. Staff were amazing. Unfortunately lots of construction to beachfront suites messy but not a major problem.
